Why Support UA Dance
An Equal Emphasis; Ballet, Modern and Jazz
Preparing dancers for their future…
The University of Arizona School of Dance offers an equal emphasis approach to technical training and performance in ballet, modern and jazz that optimally prepares dancers for future professional careers in dance upon graduation. To study dance at The University of Arizona is to have the best of both worlds – a nationally reputed dance program with a conservatory environment (in terms of the rigor and concentration), housed within an institution nationally lauded for scientific discoveries and research.
Dance majors maintain rigorous schedules of technique classes, rehearsals, performances and academic classes.
It is through performing that students are fully able to integrate and apply what they have learned in the classroom. With the extensive number of performances each season (and a large number of season subscribers in the audience), students grow increasingly more comfortable, spontaneous and free to take risks on stage. The UA Dance Ensemble is comprised of B.F.A. and M.F.A. students, privileged to perform in the state-of-the-art performance facility: The Stevie Eller Dance Theatre. Dancers enjoy a large performance season, averaging over 30 main stage concerts a year.
Faculty and students frequently collaborate with other departments on campus, including Music, Theater, Art, Media Arts, Architecture and the Sciences to create work that transcends the traditional choreographic realm.
