Today marks the 10th anniversary of the January 8, 2011 mass shooting in Tucson that took the life of six people and injured thirteen, including former Rep. Gabby Giffords who was hosting the event to meet with constituents in a grocery store parking lot that day. To help our community heal, UArizona School of Dance Director, Jory Hancock, worked with members of the Obama administration to design the event, Together We Thrive. Along with the School of Dance, the Fred Fox School of Music, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and partners across the University contributed to a powerful moment of coming together as a community in McKale Center, on the University of Arizona campus. Principal speakers were Barack Obama, Janet Napolitano, Eric Holder, Robert Shelton, among others.
Today, UA Dance remembers those who were lost and all those affected by this tragedy. We also remember the resilience of our community when we come together.
