Cirque du Soleil Auditions Dancers at the University of Arizona School of Dance
The University of Arizona School of Dance recently hosted a thrilling audition for
dancers interested in working with Cirque du Soleil, the renowned international
entertainment company. The audition attracted a diverse range of dancers from
different years, all eager to showcase their talent and secure a spot in Cirque du Soleil’s
productions.
Tammy To, Artistic Casting Advisor for Cirque du Soleil, shared her excitement about
the event. “It has been a fun–filled day. We’ve really done a wide range of dance styles,
some choreography directly from our productions, and it’s so inspiring and so
heartwarming for me to see the next generation, see what these dancers have been
studying,” she said. “We’re really excited to audition not only the seniors, but we’ve also
seen dancers from all the different years, which is great.”
Gianni Howell, a Visiting Assistant Professor at the School of Dance, who previously
performed with Cirque du Soleil, was also present at the audition. “Coming full circle and
returning to the School of Dance as a visiting assistant professor feels like a
homecoming for me. It’s an incredible feeling to have the opportunity to give back to the
same institution that provided me with the foundation and tools to launch my career in
dance, while also sharing the lessons I learned about discipline, hard work, and
teamwork during my time at Cirque du Soleil,” he said.
The partnership between Cirque du Soleil and the University of Arizona School of Dance
is a strong one, with many alumni from the program currently performing or having
performed in Cirque du Soleil’s productions. Tammy To expressed her enthusiasm for
the ongoing collaboration, saying, “We’re really excited to keep this partnership where
we can come back each year and hopefully get more dancers from this school in our
productions.”
The University of Arizona School of Dance is proud to have provided its students with
such a valuable experience and is excited to see the impact it will have on their careers.
The school’s dedication to connecting students with industry professionals and
opportunities reflects its commitment to preparing students for successful careers in
dance.
