After You Apply

Applications to the BFA in Dance are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Once your application has been evaluated, you will receive an email with the subject line:

“A decision has been reached for your CFA Application.”

This message will contain a link to your status page within the
Fine Arts Application – BFA Dance.

On that page, you’ll see a message that reads:

“An update to your application was last posted Month DD, YEAR.”

Click the “View Update” button to open your decision letter.
You may download or print a copy for your records.

If you have not received an update within 45–60 days of submitting your application, we encourage you to reach out to the Arizona Dance Office for assistance.

Please Note: Under the Early Action Application Process, official acceptance decision letters will not be released until on or after January 15. Prior to this date, you may receive a conditional acceptance or denial notification.

As a reminder, University policy requires that applicants must be officially admitted to the University of Arizona before receiving a decision from the School of Dance.

Dance Merit Scholarships

To be considered for a first-year Dance Merit Scholarship, dancers must audition in person before February 1, 2025.

Applications submitted after February 1 may still be considered, but scholarship funds may be limited.

Note: To qualify for University of Arizona academic scholarships through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA), students must submit their general UA application by December 2, 2024. (This date will be updated annually.)

Multiple Audition Policy

  • Each dancer may audition up to two times total (not per year).
  • After two auditions, no further applications will be accepted.
  • Summer recruitment events (e.g. REVEL: The PANEL, Tremaine Nationals, NYCDA) do not count toward your two formal audition attempts.

No. Our foundation is in ballet, jazz, and modern, and students are required to train in all three styles throughout their time at Arizona Dance.

Yes! We also offer classes in hip hop, tap, pointe, Africana, ballet repertory, and more.

Students take courses like Careers in Dance, Teaching Methods, Choreography, Improvisation, Injury Prevention, Dancer Anatomy, Voice, Production, and more—supporting both artistic and professional development.

As a current U of A student, you will need to submit a Change of Major form to gain access to the Future Wildcat Portal (U of A application system), where the BFA Dance supplemental application is located. Filling out this form does not change your major. Your major will only change if you are accepted into BFA Dance program.

We have a very small number of dance minors, as the Arizona Dance resources and facilities are dedicated to the BFA and MFA programs. The application and audition process for the dance minor is the same process as applying for the BFA Dance program. A dance minor is a possible outcome of auditioning. Typically, a dance minor is offered to a dancer who was not strong enough in multiple disciplines to be accepted into the BFA program but excelled in one discipline so strongly that the faculty review committee thinks the dancer would be a good fit for the program.

To fairly consider dancers for the program, the faculty needs to make an “apples to apples” comparison of the video content that is submitted. The movement phrases dancers learn from the video clips is specifically designed to challenge dancers so the faculty can asses the skills they are looking for in a dancer that will be a good fit for the Arizona Dance program. Because of this, the faculty is not able to consider alternative video content.
