The UA Dance performance season culminates with Spring Collection, a lively mix of dance featuring works by its illustrious faculty, and a masterwork by Frank Chaves. In Habaneras, the Music of Cuba, Chaves presents a tribute to his native Cuba, inspired by and dedicated to his father. Habaneras is a vibrant full-company piece that celebrates Cuba’s most popular composers.
Spring Collection will also feature the premiere of Michael Williams’ &theVerdictIZ Williams utilizes a cast of 24 dancers – with three lead characters — dynamically saturating the stage with movement. The fun, modern score provides a musical backdrop for the dramatic intensions of the work. Mobsters, murder and malice illuminates an underworld of 1930s Chicago.
Faculty member Sam Watson’s Pitter Patter Pulse/The Rhythm of the Rainstorm is a jazzy quartet set to music by Count Basie. Faculty works by Elizabeth George-Fesch, Christopher Compton, and Barbea Williams fill up an evening of works that you will not want to miss.
