Laura Kaufman

Dancer/Actress on the Broadway National Tour of CATS
Alumni, BFA, 2013

Laura Kaufman

What I've Been Up To

Upon graduating, I went to dance with City Ballet of San Diego for a season where I had the opportunity to dance many principal roles. Finding that I missed the many other styles that I was given the opportunity to do at the U of A, I then went on to dance with Odyssey Dance Theatre for 3 seasons where I did two international tours. From there, I booked the Broadway National Tour of "An American in Paris" where it was an absolute dream to combine both ballet and musical theatre. I toured the country for year with the show and then moved to NYC when the show closed. While in NYC I teach at Broadway Dance Center which has been surreal after taking classes there in my younger years. Most recently I did the Broadway National Tour of "CATS" for a year on the road, performing nightly in a single role and covering principal roles as well! The path I've been on has been winding and wonderful and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

How UA Dance inspired and/or impacted me as an individual

UA Dance greatly impacted me as an individual. My 4 years in the dance department shaped me as both a human and a dancer and are 4 years I would not trade for the world. UA danced instilled drive, discipline, artistry, individuality, passion, versatility, and so much more in me. I was inspired daily by my peers and by the endless opportunities to learn new choreography and excel in different styles. The professors and their belief in me gave me the confidence to go out into the world after graduating and hold my head high, knowing I had the tools to succeed. Being a triple track program, having the chance to train in ballet, modern, and jazz while at the UA has truly gotten me where I am today. Almost every job I've gotten has been due to the fact that I could excel in all of these styles, with confidence and individuality. The University of Arizona Dance department is an extremely special place, and if I could go back and do my 4 years over and over again, I would. They were the best and are filled with memories, friendships, and life lessons that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
